Arne Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Humiliation
Arne Slot conceded that it's expected for concerns to be asked about his position following another heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their ninth loss in twelve matches, representing the club's poorest run after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a tough night at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I have got plenty of backing from the top,” Slot stated.
“It would be nice to change things and get a victory naturally but if you are working as a coach and not doing well then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He added, “I am OK with my role. It is not the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with The Board
Upon being questioned to provide details on his discussions with the club's leadership, Slot revealed:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful to the team and to me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me all the time of the day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal conversations we have I sense the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them since this match so far so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Failings and Squad Reaction
Slot highlighted known weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” Jones said.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He added, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a phase such as this with results like these.”
Jones stated, “But we still have the crest on our chest. And until that badge is gone, we’re always going to fight.”
“We’re going to try to help the side return to the top, show everyone once more what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the greatest side in the planet.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
