British tennis star Emma Raducanu ends this year's campaign and will keep trainer for 2026.
The British player advanced to round three in three out of four major tournaments during the season.
The British tennis star Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from her remaining competitions in 2025 as a result of a medical condition that has affected her over the past 10 days.
Raducanu, aged 22 was due to play in tournaments in Tokyo and Hong Kong but has decided to fly home to recover before starting her preparations for 2026.
These plans will include trainer Francisco Roig, as the pair will keep partnering again next season.
Raducanu had her blood pressure taken in her opening round with Ann Li in Wuhan last week and withdrew when trailing 6-1 4-1 on a day with extreme humidity.
She again required a visit from the doctor at the recent Ningbo Open, where she lost in three sets to Zhu Lin, a Chinese wildcard in the opening round.
She was also playing with clear difficulty in the deciding set against Zhu due to a lower back issue that has been a concern during parts of the season.
These outcomes followed a positive campaign, in which she climbed into the top 30 globally after more than three years since her previous ranking, concluded with three straight losses.
The athlete was close to victory with three match points prior to falling to Pegula in the third round in the Beijing tournament last month.
Raducanu won 28 matches during 2025 and advanced to the semis in the Washington tournament, but the highlight of her season was at the Miami event in March.
Ranked first in Britain reached the quarter-finals of the WTA 1000 event, overcoming Emma Navarro, the eighth seed on the way prior to a loss in three sets to Pegula, ranked fourth.
She worked with trainer Mark Petchey from the Miami event through Wimbledon, with Roig taking over for the US Open.
The first plan with Rafael Nadal's former coach was through the season's conclusion but the partnership will continue, with planned training sessions for the end of the year.
The athlete revealed that a three-day test period with Roig post-Wimbledon was like a "covert operation" as they tried to keep the meeting secret.
She nearly succeeded to defeating top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka at the first competition with Roig in Cincinnati during August.
Roig was also with Raducanu in the New York tournament, where she advanced to round three prior to losing to Rybakina, champion at Wimbledon in 2022.
