Gus Atkinson added to the fitness woes of the England squad upon exiting the playing area early on day two in the Melbourne Test in the Ashes series.

Atkinson pulled up with his left hamstring after the final ball that he bowled at the MCG.

The England team stated the 27-year-old reported "discomfort" and required time off the field to undergo evaluation "during the day".

The final Test of the series in Sydney starts this coming Sunday.

The visitors have been without key quicks one seamer due to knee trouble and Jofra Archer to a side strain on this Ashes tour.

Matthew Fisher was added to the party as cover for Wood.
