The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.
Although not quite at the equivalent scale as pardoning festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued since the beginning of a current administration.
“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The pig, contributed by a first responder, was christened after the current slang trend of young people shouting “6-7” – deriving from a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The craze became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently made “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The pig pardon has become a cherished method to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.
“It represents the character of Miami: joyful, varied, and based in heritage that unite the community. Every time, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
