The Red Devils Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

The forward, with six months left on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL side.

Her exit from Munich was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

Securing the German international comes at a time when United seem to be building momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a club official commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
