The Showrunner Discloses He Has a Plan for How The Apple TV+ Show Might Finish... Currently.

The acclaimed writer-producer never anticipated that his new science-fiction series would turn into a massive hit. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he remarks. “I was surprised by the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

With the first season of the acclaimed series coming to an end—and a second season already in development—Gilligan and his team recently discussed the viewer reception and whether it will influence the narrative path of Pluribus.

On the Tremendous Viewer Reception

One could easily to get sidetracked by the rampant praise and fan theories about Pluribus. The creator is doing his best to ignore the noise.

“It's like being force fed your favorite dessert and being laughing uncontrollably,” he says. “It's the greatest thing, but I learn of it through word of mouth, and that's by design. Never in my life searched for my own name online, nor do I ever want to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a deep trap I know I would disappear down and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from Home Depot and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Despite his concerted efforts, there’s it's impossible to ignore the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The most practical strategy is to take it in stride and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We don't try to change the plot,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not changed by what people are saying.”

“It's wiser to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan concludes.

The Big Question: Has the creator Have a Plan for the Finale of Pluribus?

So if the creative staff aren't taking cues by public opinion, can we assume they have mapped out how Pluribus will finally conclude? Essentially yes… in a way.

“We have some potential directions about where the show might end up,” he states. “yet we stand ready to abandon a solid concept for a more brilliant plan. That philosophy has guided us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we get a better idea and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

Alternatively, if all else fails, executive producer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to fall back on.

“I keep pitching that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and that's where they've been all along,” he says humorously, “but no one is buying it.”

Of course, why mess with the legendary finales?

“I want Carol to open her eyes beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus is currently available on the streaming service.
